Maths learning story

In maths I have been learning to work as a team to share and explain my ideas about how to solve the problem. I can use what I already know to help me make connections to solve questions easily. I have learnt most of my timetables and I can use them instead of doing repeated addition. It's a faster way to solve the problem.

When we did problems about Anzacs, I could use what I learnt about the soldiers in the boats at Gallipoli to help me visualise what the problem was asking me to do.

I knew there were 78 boats, on each boats there are 15 soldiers. We went 78x15=? The numbers were to large to times so we had to times the tens and the ones.
78x15=?
(10x70=700) + (5x70=350) + (5x8=40) + (10x8=80)

The answer was 2070 soldiers on 78 boats.

When I am working with my learning team I give my team some ideas about how to solve the problem. I encourage my team to work together and make sure they read the problem and understand what the problem is asking them to do. If they don't know I can explain it to them and repeat it if they still don't know.

I like maths because I get to help people learn maths and solve problems. I get to work with other people like my friends. I also like maths because you get to find what the answer is and it is so much fun.
